50 years of business April 1, 2020
Fifty years ago, our founders had a vision to supply electric submersible pumps for dewatering construction sites. At the time operating motors under water was a brand-new concept in America and around the world. Most temporary pumping required gas engine driven pumps. Dee Parkhurst, one of the founders of PSI began his career as a lead mechanic working for various equipment suppliers in New Jersey.
Flygt Pumps opened a direct sales Branch office in New Jersey in the late 60s where Dee served as the lead service man and later the Branch Manager. Working closely with local contractors, Dee understood the potential for using submersible pumping technology. In 1970 Dee partnered with Ed Funkhouser and purchased the branch from Flygt forming Pumping Services, Inc. Ed Funkhouser came from the construction market where he was an estimator for various companies. They began in Middlesex New Jersey with a shared office and garage space from a local contractor. Coming from a service background,
Dee insisted servicing customers must be the highest priority!
Fifty years later with 60 employee owners we have established the company as a leader in pumping and treatment solutions for the water and wastewater industries. PSI serves the municipal, industrial, construction and private markets around New Jersey and New York.
