Allentown Wastewater Treatment Project
The Borough of Allentown, New Jersey, a quaint suburban community about midway between New York City and Philadelphia, wanted to modernize its crumbling municipal wastewater treatment plant to meet state requirements and reduce operating costs. As a project requirement, the town asked that the declining plant remained in service during reconstruction. Most importantly, the project needed to fit the economic constraints of this small, independent municipality with fixed assistance from the New Jersey Clean Water State Revolving Fund.

Bubble-Action Reduces F.O.G. Buildup, Odor, and Expense
PSI CASE STUDY:
Wet Well DEFOG keeps fats, oils, and greases in suspension as it activates a natural aerobic odor-control process.
Wet-Well DEFOG’s bubble-forming plate keeps wastewater organics, solids, and rags in motion so they move at a controlled rate without clogging your pumps.
Powerful bubble action from an 8-inch stainless steel plate lifts water at the bottom of your well and brings it to the surface. Rising water and air break through the surface grease blanket while activating a natural aerobic cleansing process within your wastewater. With more water at the surface, your wet well will have less side-wall grease buildup. As water moves back to the bottom, along the sidewall, it holds grease and debris in suspension, to flow through your system more easily.
With no moving parts below the water level, this mixer technology from PHI-CA uses a patented process developed by C3ND Environmental Consulting. No chemicals are added to your wet well, odors are reduced, and wastewater flows freely through your pumps and into your processing system.
Howell Township, New Jersey
The Route 9 pump station, near several retail malls with numerous food establishments, had no grease traps in place. Howell Public Works tested Wet-Well DEFOG for one week with outstanding results.
Hazlet Township, New Jersey
Hazlet’s Line Road wet well saw almost immediate improvement when they started using Wet-Well DEFOG. And although they had major flooding during hurricane Ida, their DEFOG system started right back up once water receded and power was restored.
TWO DECADES OF CLOG-FREE PUMPING
PSI CASE STUDY:
Two Decades of Clog-Free Pumping
The Borough of Fair Lawn, New Jersey generates between 3.5 and 4 million gallons per day (MGD) of wastewater. The sewer system’s 550,000 linear feet of pipe often ends up carrying its share of modern trash. Fair Lawn’s main challenge is to keep the wastewater moving in the most efficient manner. PSI Process recommended the installation of Flygt N-Technology Wastewater pumps. This case study shows their impact after more than two decades of continuous operation.

Horse Racetrack bets on Flygt for pump station design.
Flygt pumps and Pump station design and implementation enables historic horse racetrack to remain open for business.
Pump manufacturer Xylem and their distributor, Pumping Services Inc., worked closely with PS&S to design the new pump station. The Flygt CP 3501 pumps are designed to handle different types of flows. Available with cast iron or duplex stainless steel three-channel impellers, the pumps feature excellent flow passing properties that reduce clogging in the impeller channel. A narrow gap between the interchangeable wear rings ensures high efficiency.
The project was completed in 2012 with no interruption to racetrack operations. Today, the racetrack continues its daily operations while addressing all environmental concerns and keeping the surrounding community safe and clean.
